Turning Dreams into Degrees

This course will help caregivers, including STRTP staff and resource families, to understand how to support the youth in their care to make a smooth transition from high school to college. Caregivers will learn about the benefits of college and the different pathways available to better support youth in making a plan. Caregivers will also learn about the key steps youth must take in their junior and senior year of high school, and the supports and resources that exist to help youth along the way.

Caregiver Supporting Materials

Foster Youth Educational Planning Guide in English and Spanish –  This guide is designed to help students chart their course to the college that is right for their interests and career goals. It also directs students to the support and resources available for foster youth scholars that can help turn their dreams into degrees.

Financial Aid Guide for California Foster Youth in English and Spanish – This student-friendly guide takes the mystery out of applying for and keeping financial aid. The guide begins with an explanation of different types of financial aid available, includes a step-wise guide to completing the FAFSA, tips on what to do after the FAFSA to ensure maximum aid awards, and explains how to stay in good standing and keep getting financial assistance for school.
