How State Investment Reduced Youth Homelessness in California
This web seminar marked the release of a report highlighting how targeted state investments have reduced youth homelessness in California by 24% between 2019 and 2024.
The webinar and report provide a statewide analysis of trends in youth homelessness over this time period, and of local homelessness actions plans, showing how communities are using the Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) program to address youth homelessness. HHAP has a “youth set-aside,” requiring that jurisdictions direct at least 10% of their HHAP allocation toward addressing youth homelessness.
Webinar participants learned about how HHAP funding was instrumental in building up a robust continuum of youth service providers within local homeless response systems, and the impact that reduced or eliminated HHAP funding would have on the youth services continuum statewide.
The report includes profiles of providers operating HHAP-funded programs serving youth, including two who were featured on the webinar.
