How COVID-19 Rent Relief Funds Can Help Foster Youth Facing the Housing Cliff

Last updated Nov, 3 2021

An important housing resource is available for youth who remained in foster care after age 21 due to the pandemic and now face the December 31, 2021 “housing cliff:” the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. In California, this program is called the COVID-19 Rent Relief Program and it can use used to pay “unpaid or future rent or utilities.”

In this web seminar participants learned how to help youth access this important program. Panelists included representatives from JBAY and Public Counsel, which is administering the COVID-19 Rent Relief Program in Los Angeles.

Panelists explained program eligibility, stepped through the on-line application, provided guidance about how foster youth should answer specific questions given their unique circumstances and answered participant questions.

For additional information including eligibility and help with completing the application, call the CA COVID-19 Rent Relief Call Center at 833-430-2122.
