2023 NextUP Expansion Implementation Toolkit

As a result of JBAY’s advocacy, the 2022-23 California budget included a significant expansion of funding for the NextUp program that has allowed every college in the state to receive an allocation of funds. To help guide the 60 colleges that will be receiving NextUp funds for the first time in January 2023, JBAY surveyed several existing NextUp programs to better understand the elements that contribute to program success. This toolkit is designed to help NextUp funded programs, both new and old, to develop and implement programs that best meet the needs of students with experience in foster care. 

A companion video was also recorded featuring a panel of four college representatives from campuses with exceptional NextUp programs discussing integrating services for foster youth and creating a seamless system of support using trauma-informed practices. The recording is available HERE.
