This slide deck is ready to use with notes for the presenter, focused on teaching a group of young adults about filing taxes, with the goal of assisting them with accessing the Foster Youth Tax Credit

This guide walks young adults who are currently or formerly in foster care through the process of filing their own taxes from beginning to end for FREE with the support of myfreetaxes.org and TaxSlayer, the IRS free filing site.

This roster lists each of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites that are specifically assisting current and former foster youth, by county, as well as provides a link to locate other general VITA sites young adults may visit if there is no local foster youth site.

This one-pager educates and informs professional tax preparers about the Foster Youth Tax Credit (FYTC). While we do not recommend the use of paid preparers (because there is a high rate of error, little awareness of the FYTC, and there are plenty of free options), if a young chooses to use one, make sure they bring this one-pager with them to ensure they don’t miss the FYTC.
